Rock Climbing Clinics: Basic Rock Craft

Basic Rock Craft is a two-day immersion program designed to teach clients the basic skills they need to start exploring the world of rock climbing on their own. The skills taught will be consistent with industry standards for similar programs and can be effectively adapted for a variety of client skill levels. The Basic Rock Craft Programs are scheduled for June 9-10 and June 13-14.

COST: $300 per person

DATES: The Basic Rock Craft Programs are scheduled for June 9June 10 and June 1314.

The instructor to client ratio will be no more than 1:6

Day One

At Emory & Henry Outdoor Program building (EHOP) and on the tower

Morning:
  • Intro, names, medical forms and informed consent, leave no trace climbing
  • Climbing movement, bouldering and spotting
  • Harnesses and knots
Afternoon:
  • Climbing on the tower, top-rope belay skills
  • Basic anchors on bolts, trees and boulders
  • Other climbing equipment: what else might you need?

Day Two

At Emory & Henry Outdoor Program building (EHOP) and Hidden Valley

Morning:
  • Meet and short review
  • Guide book and topo interpretation
  • Make lunch and drive to Hidden Valley
Afternoon:
  • Site specific and general rock climbing hazards
  • Climbing
  • Anchor building and evaluation
  • Cleaning top-rope anchors
  • Return to EHOP and debrief
  • Question and answer session
  • What’s Next? Appropriate progression, other courses, etc.
COST: $300 per person
