Voted best summer camp in Southwest Virginia by readers of Virginia Living magazine, the annual Emory & Henry College Summer Scholars Institute & Leadership Program is accepting applications for the 2016 program scheduled for June 12-17 on the beautiful E&H campus.

Summer-Scholars.pngNow in its 37th year, Summer Scholars is a one-week residential camp for academically enthusiastic and talented rising sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth graders.

Summer Scholars Leadership Program is also available for rising 10th, 11th and 12th grade high school students. This advanced program provides skills and tools to aid students in becoming better prepared for leadership roles in high school and college.

The camp offers accelerated learning activities designed to broaden a student’s interests. Participating students will also receive a glimpse into life on a college campus.

Scholars attend daily classes with experienced instructors in E&H academic buildings, stay in campus residence halls, and are assigned an adult mentor who will guide them during their stay.

Previous year’s classes have included drama/theatre, foreign language, leadership, robotics, mass communications, music, science and wellness. At the time of application, students may request specific subject matter of interest to them and influence the course offerings for this year’s camp.

Evening activities include a street dance, talent show and field activities. Students will also attend a theatre performance at the nearby Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Va.

The cost of camp is $525 with a $25 discount for applications received before March 15. This all-inclusive price includes lodging, meals and activity fees. A deposit of $50 is due at the time of application. The application deadline is April 15. On May 2, the first tuition payment is due and the remainder of the tuition will be due on or before May 16. Inquire with your school system to see if they provide scholarships to the camp.
