Founded in 1836, Emory & Henry College is a private, co-educational institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Located in the highlands of Southwest Virginia, the campus of Emory & Henry College encompasses 168 scenic acres and is surrounded by additional undeveloped land and the village of Emory. The entire central campus, noted for its beauty and architectural distinction, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Register of Historic Landmarks.

In 2013, the Washington Monthly named Emory & Henry as the top liberal arts institution in Virginia, and for the fifth consecutive year, among the top 50 national liberal arts institutions.
