About Michael Chitwood

A native of Franklin County, Virginia, Michael Chitwood is the author of six books of poetry (including two--From Whence and Spill--published in 2007) and two books of essays and stories.

He earned his B.A. at Emory & Henry in 1980 and his M.F.A. at the University of Virginia in 1986, where Charles Wright was among his teachers. His 2003 collection of poems, Gospel Road Going, won North Carolina's prestigious Roanoke-Chowan Award, and he has also received the Zoe Kincaid Brockman Award and the Robert Ruark Foundation Award.

Michael is the first Emory & Henry graduate to be the featured author at the College's annual literary festival.
