Beauty and the Beast
Presented by The Highlands Ballet Company, Highlands Center for Ballet Arts
2:30pm May 13 & 14, 2017

Beauty and the Beast, just a simple fairy tale or a story with a message to us all? The story has been around for centuries in both written and oratory form. Many experts trace similarities back as far as the second century A.D.  and some list at least 179 tales from different countries with a similar theme.

In this age old story the Highlands Ballet will seek to explore the enchanting and magical aspects and the values that are explored.  Quite simply the story deals with the battle between good and evil, and how it engulfs the life of a handsome young prince. There is also presented the considerable contrasts among three daughters,  the youngest being the most kind and pure, the sisters displaying some very undesirable traits of humankind and how they affect their devoted father. Moreover, it is a story of the willingness to sacrifice ones own wants and needs, even life itself, for the love of another that is the driving force in the story. Of course, the Beast becomes the handsome prince and he and Beauty live happily ever after!

Audiences of all ages are sure to enjoy this charming old story.
