The Emory & Henry program in teacher education offers classroom courses and field experience in education which leads to certification to teach in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our department consists of six faculty members each with their respective area of speciallty in education including assessment, instructional technology, foundations, instuctional techniques, and special education. The Emory & Henry program is nationally accredited by Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). We offer initial licensure areas in two options, the undergraduate (4-year) and the Five-year (B.A. or B.S. plus M.A. Ed in Professional Studies).
A Fast Track M. Ed. in Professional Studies is also available which requires a teaching content area, usually a B.A. or a B.S. in a teaching subject.
The Master of Arts in Education in Reading or History programs are also available and are designed for working teachers. Licensed teachers who complete the reading program qualify to be certified as Reading Specialists in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
