EHC teacher preparation program assessments are linked to education courses, and students are required to take and pass all assessments in their area. Assessments may be taken during or prior to the associated courses. Scores are accepted upon presentation of official score reports. The cost of testing is not covered in course fees. Registration and fees for testing are the responsibility of the student and students must register themselves on line or by phone. These are the required assessments, the courses to which they are linked, and additional useful information about each assessment:
Praxis I (all three subtests) OR Praxis I Math and the VCLA is required of all students entering our Virginia-approved licensure programs. Students register for Praxis I (all three subtests) OR Praxis I Math and the VCLA during EDUC 114, Introduction to Education.
Exemption from the above requirement is as follows:
SAT score exemption requires a minimum verbal plus math score of 1100 with at least 530 in verbal and 530 in math.
ACT score exemption requires a minimum composite score of 24 with no less than 22 for math, and the English score plus the reading score must equal no less than 46.
Requests for exemption must be accompanied by an official score report submitted to the Neff Education Center Office.

The testing agency sends only one score report, which is sent to the person who takes the test. Students must file a photocopy of the official score report with the Neff Education Center Office and should keep their original score report because they may need it again for verification when seeking a teaching position.
Praxis II: Each student must take a Praxis II specific to his or her teaching subject during the last semester of course work or during student teaching. The cost is not covered in fees. The registration and fees for testing are the responsibility of the student and students must register themselves on line or by phone. The Neff Education Center staff is available to answer questions regarding testing and registration.
