The 25th Annual B.G. Raines Education Forum
April 16, 2013
The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center
In August 1988, the Jessie Ball duPont Religious, Charitable and Educational Fund awarded Emory & Henry College a grant to develop a model program for collaboration and cooperation between the college and public schools.
One goal of this grant was to develop an annual education forum to bring together individuals from Emory & Henry, surrounding schools, business, and industry to establish an on-going dialogue regarding educational needs and opportunities. The yearly forum is intended to initiate and to foster this dialogue, to address these needs, and to make plans for continued collaboration to bring about improved education in the region.
In 2006, the Forum was renamed in honor of Dr. Bob Gene Raines, a founder of the Forum. Dr. Raines was a lifelong resident of Southwest Virginia, served in the public schools as a teacher, principal, and administrator, and retired from Emory & Henry College as Professor Emeritus in mathematics and education. While teaching at Emory & Henry, he also served as Director of the Wm. N. Neff Center for Teacher Preparation (Neff Education Center). Our Spring 2013 event will mark the 25th anniversary of the forum.
The Forum is free and open to the public. Registration is required. All school teachers, students in teacher education, school officials, and civic leaders interested in education are encouraged to register and attend.
Teacher Roundtable Workshops
Each year we invite McGlothlin Award Winners and the Virginia Teacher of the Year to conduct Teacher Roundtable Workshops for teachers and student teachers prior to the main forum presentation.
Forum sponsors
Emory & Henry College gratefully acknowledges the support of the school systems in Region VII that help to make the Forum a success each year. Their support, along with the sponsorship from Emory and Henry, ensures the continuation of the forum.
