As heavy rain fell on the large tent located on the Memorial Chapel lawn, President Rosalind Reichard smiled and waved to many of the hundreds gathered to celebrate her legacy. This was her day, literally.
Reichard, who retires as E&H president in July after seven years of service, was recognized by the Washington County, Va., Board of Supervisors, who designated April 19 "Dr. Rosalind Reichard Day." The resolution, which was approved unanimously, commemorates Reichard's achievements during her tenure as the College's 20th president.
Known as the “Building President,” Reichard has presided over new or planned construction on campus totaling more than $50 million, including two new residence halls and a new athletic field house. It was fitting, therefore, that “Dr. Rosalind Reichard Day” also would include the groundbreaking for the Woodrow W. McGlothlin Center for the Arts.
Reichard was honored with a celebration full of speeches, skits, and video tributes.
