It was during a successful thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail during the summer of 2009 when Taylor would make a decision that would send him thousands of miles away from home to use the skills he learned while in Emory.

Pappy spent 50 years as pioneer of local sports coverage while working for the Bristol Herald Courier, and his groundbreaking work is now being honored by the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
Sunni Blevins (class of 2005) of WWBT-TV 12 in Richmond, Va., has repeated as the winner of the television category for the Farm Bureau Journalism Awards. Blevins was honored for her comprehensive agriculture coverage throughout 2010.
