A memorial fund established by friends and family members of a former college employee provides emergency assistance to Emory & Henry undergraduate students during times of personal crises.
The Claudia Duffy Memorial Student Emergency Fund honors a former administrative assistant in the Dean of Students Office who was adored by students for her wisdom and care.
“Claud would've been proud to have had this (endowment) in her name,” said Dr. Michael Duffy, Claudia's husband and former E&H professor of physics, who also praised his wife's former boss, Pam Gourley, for “providing a wonderful work environment where Claud loved to go every day.”
Gourley recalled Claudia Duffy as a strong and outspoken yet compassionate and loving friend of students who loved life.
I know that Claudia is dancing about this right now.Pam Gourley
The fund was established to provide financial support where a clear need exists and students' personal funding is inadequate. Typical applications of the fund might include financial help for bereavement travel, a medical emergency, food, essential personal items or other acute needs as determined by the College.
