Emory & Henry students in a health and human performance class recently participated in a hands-on leadership workshop at Vance Middle School in Bristol, Va., during which they developed leadership skills in teamwork, communication and a variety of other areas.
Students in the Health & Human Performance 336 Leadership in Sport and Society summer class participated in the workshop as guests of the River's Way Outdoor Program. They engaged in gardening and nursery activities while developing skills that helped them to be both good leaders and good followers all the while setting a positive example for others.
Students assisted in the washing, sorting and bagging of organically grown lettuce and kale. They also tilled and cultivated numerous vegetation hoop houses and sorted compost and participated in team-building activities and games that helped them utilize the leadership lessons throughout the day.
The E&H participants extended a special thank you to Tom Hanlon of River’s Way as well as to Vance Middle School.
