Emory & Henry College strives to provide a world-class education. But it’s the College’s classes around the world that have recently earned the institution accolades for its study abroad programs.

Emory & Henry College was ranked #23 by LendEDU, and is the only college or university from the state of Virginia to be included in the top 50.

In creating the ranking, the company analyzed more than 250 study abroad programs and constructed their rankings by weighting the following data:

  • The program plays a concrete role in fostering study abroad, whether it is their own campus overseas, a link to a specific foreign university or linking with affiliate programs.
  • The program offers something unique over other institutions.
  • The program emphasizes smaller cohorts over massive groups of students.
  • University faculty are involved with the process, traveling with students, teaching them once abroad and leading an array of activities.
  • The program is more than just a few weeks, usually a semester or longer.

The ranking highlighted the college’s vast number of options open to students with access to more than 70 study abroad programs in 35 countries.

Emory & Henry provides semester abroad opportunities throughout the world, including locations in Europe, Asia, Central and South America, Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Ireland.

The study abroad programs are part of a broader initiative to internationalize the campus and provide students with experiences that will enhance their education while creating global citizens.

“We have seen time after time that spending a semester abroad is an experience that changes the lives of the students who participate,” said Dr. Celeste Gaia, director of international education.

These programs provide students with an international academic experience alongside trusted faculty and staff, as well as their student colleagues. Courses include in-person and written reflection components that allow students to share and process their experiences.

These courses are a great first-time international experience and often inspire students to pursue semester abroad study, and sometimes graduate study or employment in another country.Dr. Celeste GaiaDirector of International Education

Over the next two years, E&H faculty members will lead programs with study in Belize, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Panama, Poland, Spain, Sweden and Vietnam.
