Prelude to Performance -- The Capital Campaign for the Center for the Arts and the Fred Selfe Athletic Stadium

The new name for the renovated stadium would have to symbolize athletics, integrity, leadership, dedication and respect. The choice was crystal clear.

To friends and colleagues, Coach Fred Selfe embodied in the E&H motto, "Increase in Excellence."

His distinguished career included 29 years as a teacher, coach and athletic director at his alma mater, where heplayed football in the 1960s. Described as a "gentle colossus who loomed large in the hearts of hundreds within the community," Selfe led by example, never seeking glory or accolades for himself.

The Fred Selfe Athletic Stadium is a fitting tribute to one who wanted nothing less than the best for the students and athletes whose lives he touched every day at Emory & Henry. The new complex will forever be a reminder of the spirit and character of this extraordinary leader and friend.
