Biography

Janet Kirby has been the Technical Services Librarian at Kelly Library since 1994.  She handles all the acquisitions, oversees cataloging and serials functions, and preforms database maintenance.  In addition, Janet provides library / information literacy instruction, works with the assistant librarian in collection development, and provides reference service to library patrons.  She has a bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of North Texas. She has worked in public and academic libraries in Texas and Virginia, including the University of Virginia. She serves as the in-house systems coordinator for the HAL library consortium, is a member of the Holston Associated Libraries’ Tech Services Committee, and is treasurer for a regional library association, MALiA.  She has presented sessions for the Appalachian College Association, Mid-Atlantic Innovative Users Group, and Washington County Schools teachers’ in-service training.  She is a member of the Washington County Master Gardeners, Museum of the Middle Appalachians, Smyth County Humane Society, and Gilmer County (WV) Historical Society.
