Josh Bullock is entering his first year as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at Emory & Henry College. The newly-created position will come into effect on July 1, 2014. Bullock joins E&H after spending the 2013-14 academic year at Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont.
Bullock will be tasked with creating and implementing a strength & conditioning program for each of the College’s 13 NCAA Division III teams. He will also supervise the day-to-day operations of the Robert W. Gibson, III Fitness Center inside the John Rutledge King Center while managing the student-worker staff.
While at Green Mountain, Bullock built the Eagles’ strength & conditioning program from the ground up. He oversaw the design and implementation of comprehensive programs for 11 NCAA Division III varsity sports, covering 180 student-athletes. He also assisted with a capital improvement project that included the construction of a brand new weightlifting room. Bullock also put together workshops regarding nutrition, dietary supplementation, sports psychology and workout expectations.
Bullock worked for one year as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at Killington Mountain School, a boarding school specializing in the training of high-level skiers, snowboarders and cyclists. While there, Bullock created the program from scratch and helped to implement standards and guidelines set forth by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Student-Athletes from KMS who have worked with Bullock have gone on to become members of the U.S. Cycling Junior National Team and the U.S. Ski Team.
Prior to moving to the Northeast, Bullock spent four and a half years as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach and Fitness Center Director at his alma mater, the University of Redlands. He oversaw and implemented comprehensive strength & conditioning programs for over 500 student-athletes from 21 different NCAA Division III sports. He managed the 7,500 square-foot campus fitness center’s staff of 25 student employees and a strength & conditioning staff of nine while also teaching classes in health & wellness and strength & conditioning.
Among his honors, Bullock has mentored 10 collegiate NSCA All-Americans, two High School NSCA All-Americans, 12 SCIAC Team Champions and five NCAA Division III Individual National Champions and is a published author in the NSCA Strength & Conditioning Journal. Bullock is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist with Distinction and a Registered Strength & Conditioning Coach by the NSCA, a Certified Specialist in Sports Nutrition by the International Sports Sciences Association and is a USA Weightlifting Certified Club Coach.
Bullock earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal studies with a minor in physical education from Redlands in May of 2003. He completed a Master of Arts in Management at Redlands in 2011 and earned a second M.A. from Fresno Pacific University in Kinesiology in 2012.
