Biography

The Director of Athletics is responsible for the athletic department planning, program development and assessment, budget, and resource management including facilities, supervision of compliance with NCAA and ODAC rules and regulations, coaching and support staff appointments and supervision, athletic staff professional development, outreach to the local and regional community, and relationships with prospective students and graduates.

A native of Gate City, Virginia, Myra Sims became Director of Athletics at Emory & Henry in March 2010, where she now oversees 13 intercollegiate athletic teams and is responsible for a staff of 30 head coaches, assistant coaches and support staff. She received her B.A. from the University of North Carolina – Asheville and M.S. from Georgia State University. Sims served as Head Volleyball and Assistant Basketball Coach at UNC-Asheville from 1982-85. She distinguished herself by serving as Assistant Coach for the NAIA National Championship team in Women’s Basketball. Sims served in a variety of positions at Emory University from 1987-2010. She started a Volleyball program at Emory University in 1987 and then started Women’s Basketball program in 1988. She led the women’s basketball team to NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen in 1995 and 1997. At Emory University, she taught numerous Physical Education classes, ran a variety of camps and recruiting events; became Assistant AD in 2003, Associate AD in 2007 and Senior Associate AD in 2008.
