COSTA RICA | BIOL 340

After discussing neotropical ecosystems during the spring semester, students travel to Costa Rica to analyze organisms and their habitats. After a one-night stay in the capital city of San Jose, the class travels to the Pacific coast, then moves through the central mountains and volcanoes to the Caribbean lowlands, where students design and conduct individual research projects at La Suerte Biological Station.
The trip concludes on the Caribbean coast during the nesting of sea turtles. The two-week trip is geared toward Biology and Environmental Studies majors and meets three hours a week during the spring semester covering such topics as tropical ecosystems and diversity, rainforest ecology, evolution and coevolution, and organisms likely to be encountered.
