Appalachian Center for Community Service
As part of Emory & Henry's mission to integrate education with service and citizenship,
the Appalachian Center for Community Service exists to help individuals and student groups with short-term
and extended service activities, while establishing service partnerships between the college and local rural
communities. The Center is not just about volunteerism; it's about creating positive social change and dealing
with root causes of social inequities.
The Center houses the Bonner Scholars Program, the Appalachian Center Associates, the AmeriCorps Program,
the Public Policy and Community Service major, and the Emory & Henry Student
Tutoring Program. The Center also oversees the Afternoon Academy, an after school program for sixth-grade students, sponsored by Emory & Henry College, Glade Spring Middle School, and the Emory United Methodist Church.
