Amy Ball Braswell

As the Coordinator of Campus Service Programs, Amy's responsibilities include building relationships and partnerships with campus organizations and offices. She coordinates Emory & Henry's Americorps, and co-directs Afternoon Academy, an after-school program on campus for local sixth grade students. She plans other annual events, such as World AIDS Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and Emory Serves Week. Amy is a native of Southwest Virginia whose family has been farming in Virginia for over 300 years. She is a graduate of Virginia Tech and Hollins University.
Lisa Evans

Lisa Evans is a 2007 graduate of Emory & Henry with degrees in Public Policy and Community Service and Religion. She now serves as the Center's Coordinator for Public Education Policy Partnerships and Programming. Lisa's work focuses primarily upon the Monroe District of Washington County Schools and attempts to make Emory & Henry's involvement with these schools more meaningful and comprehensive. Lisa serves as the director for Afternoon Academy, a long running afterschool program for sixth graders from Glade Spring Middle School; coordinates a leadership and service program for Patrick Henry High School; provides support for Glade Middle and Patrick Henry as they implement their state funded Gear Up Grant; and has other initiatives underway. Lisa is originally from Bluefield, VA and currently lives in Abingdon.
Robin Oxnard Grossman

Mrs. Grossman co-directs the Afternoon Academy, an on-campus afterschool program for Glade Spring Middle School sixth grade students, co-coordinates the Bonner-AmeriCorps Program, a service scholarship program at the college, and collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to plan and implement service-learning opportunities on campus and in the region. A native of eastern Kentucky, Mrs. Grossman is a graduate of the Universities of Kentucky and Louisville, is married to Eric Grossman, a professor in the E & H Education Department, and has two children.
Christian Miller
Coordinator, Bonner Scholars Program

Christian Miller is a 2006 graduate of Emory & Henry's Public Policy and Community Service program and works as the coordinator of the Bonner Scholars Program, the largest community service scholarship program at Emory & Henry. On average, 80 students from around the nation are able to attend Emory & Henry because of the Bonner Scholars Program. Christian grew up on a farm in Montgomery County, Virginia, an hour east of Emory & Henry College. He now resides in Glade Spring, Virginia. Christian has many hobbies and interests including working for justice and serving in the surrounding communities as well as listening to people's stories and telling his own.
Peter Redvers-Lee

Peter Redvers-Lee joins the College from Peabody College, Vanderbilt University, as an instructor of Public Policy and Community Service. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in Political Science and History from the University of Witwatersrand, honours bachelor of arts degree in Political Science from the University of South Africa, masters degree in journalism from the University of Mississippi, masters degrees in economics and Latin American studies, and he is completing his Ph.D. in community research and action from Vanderbilt University. Redvers-Lee's academic interests include human rights, action research and development, cultural issues in program design and evaluation, and economic and applied anthropology and community development.
Tal Stanley

Dr. Stanley is a 1983 graduate of Emory, and a tenth generation Southwest Virginian. He teaches in the public policy and community service department, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Big Creek People in Action in McDowell County, West Virginia and is also chair of the Meadowview First Steering Committee and president of the Meadowview Civic Club.
Dr. Stanley's professional interests include Appalachian culture and history, rural community development, culture and social history, issues of place, and cultural and social geography.
Gloria Surber

A 1979 graduate of Emory & Henry College, Ms. Surber has served the college for over 20 years. She coordinates the many administrative tasks associated with programs at the Appalachian Center, and recruits and supervises students for the Appalachian Center Associates scholarship program.
Carolyn Wilson
Coordinator of the E&H Tutoring Program
Since 1994, Ms. Wilson has coordinated the tutoring program, which matches E&H students and community members with local elementary, middle and high school students. A native of Washington County, Virginia, and a 1982 graduate of Emory & Henry College, Ms. Wilson enjoys the many pleasures of farm life.
