Campus police and security officers are duly authorized law enforcement officers of the Commonwealth of Virginia and are College employees who report to the vice president of student affairs. Campus police and security officers have jurisdiction on the main campus, on all college property owned or leased, and on public streets and roads. The major responsibility of the police and security officers is to give attention to any situation that might involve the safety and welfare of students and College employees. When there are infractions of federal, state, or local laws or college regulations, campus police and security officers are authorized to take appropriate action, including arrest, issuing a warrant or referring the student to an appropriate College official for internal action. Campus officers are trained and certified through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, the Virginia Department of Health, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Additionally some campus officers are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians and some are trained as First Responders. All campus officers are trained in Healthcare Provider First Aid/CPR/AED.
The mission of the Emory & Henry Campus Police and Security Department is to provide the security and safety needs unique to the College community in a more rural area, increase efficiency in campus safety, and provide a more secure environment for students, employees, the community and visitors. Campus police are dedicated to making the College a safe place for students in their quest for an increase in excellence.
