Worship
Faith is strong at Emory & Henry, in more ways than one. As a college, we are affiliated with the United Methodist
Church and deeply committed to the essentials of the Methodist tradition. Academically, our strong program in
religious studies centers around rigorous intellectual inquiry and reflection upon how we, as individuals,
can use our faith to serve others. As a community, we are open and welcoming to people of all faiths and cultures and
invite them to worship openly with us.
Students have many opportunities to express their faith at Emory & Henry. In addition to the academic program in religious
studies, several extracurricular, faith-based organizations are active on campus. Our choirs emphasize sacred music in their
programs. Kerygma, an organization that prepares students to pursue church vocations, maintains a large membership. Students
also meet regularly for covenant groups, Bible studies, discussions, and fellowship.
Religious life housing is available for students interested in living in a religious environment. Women live in Inazu House,
and men reside in House 17. Each week, all residents have a meal together, and during the semester each house takes on a
service project.
Regular worship services take place in Memorial Chapel, one of the most beautiful buildings on the Emory & Henry campus.
Memorial Chapel is home to the Emory United Methodist Church,
a congregation of about 200 men, women, and children. Under the service of the Rev. Beverly Robinette of the Holston Conference,
Sunday services, Sunday school, sanctuary choir practice, and hand bell practice take place each week.
