The Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Emory & Henry College is inviting applications to fill TWO principal faculty positions in its developing Masters of Physician Assistant Studies Program. These positions are full-time, 12-month tenure-track or non-tenure-track appointments and will allow for the direct participation in developing a new student- and faculty-centric program with an emphasis on critical thinking, experiential activities and mindfulness practices, and a mission to improve access to high-quality, compassionate, culturally sensitive, patient-centered, evidence-based medical care in rural and underserved areas. The department is specifically looking for applicants who are PAs or allopathic or osteopathic physicians.

The E&H School of Health Sciences was established in 2014 with the goal of preparing highly qualified health care professionals, with a focus on meeting the health care needs of the citizens within the underserved region of Southwest Virginia. The School is located on the former campus of the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia, which is 20 miles north of the main E&H campus. The 15-acre Health Sciences campus includes a newly renovated building completed in July of 2016. This facility is designed to promote interprofessional education and house's the School's occupational therapy, physical therapy and physician assistant programs. This beautiful facility includes a large lecture hall, five active learning classrooms, six skills labs (ADL, pediatric, neuro, PA exam, applied physiology, and musculoskeletal), two community-based clinical centers (falls prevention and obesity research), a state of the art clinical simulation lab, and several student study spaces.
Emory and Henry College has applied for Accreditation - Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Emory and Henry College anticipates matriculating its first class in May 2017, pending achieving Accreditation – Provisional status at the March 2017 ARC-PA meeting.
These faculty members will be responsible for the following as they relate to the developing PA Program:
• Assisting Dept. Chair/Director and other Principal Faculty in program development processes
• Providing student instruction and academic counseling of students
• Assist in overseeing students in both didactic and clinical phases of the 27-month program
• Evaluating student performance, curriculum and program outcomes
• Participate in student admission processes
• Participate in the program's continuous self-assessment processes
• Participate in the Mel Leaman Free Clinic at Emory & Henry College, located right on our SHS campus in Marion, VA
• Serve on program, departmental, school and college committees as needed.
If a Physician Assistant, candidate must be NCCPA certified and state licensed (or license eligible) as a PA. If a physician, candidate must be certified by an ABMS- or AOA- approved specialty board and state licensed (or license eligible) as an allopathic or osteopathic physician. Applicants must also have a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice. Previous clinical precepting or teaching experience for an accredited physician assistant program or medical school is preferred. However, clinicians new to academia are encouraged to apply and will have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment with active and supportive mentoring and faculty development training.
