Degrees & Requirements

The chemistry department at Emory & Henry College offers two main degree tracks: the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science.  

The Bachelor of Arts is intended for students interested in pursing a professional degree in the health professions while the Bachelor of Science degree prepares students for advanced study in chemistry.  Either tract will prepare students for entering the chemical workforce.

General Chemistry I & II with lab

Organic Chemistry I & II with lab

Junior Seminar

Senior Seminar

Bachelor of Arts Requirements 

Complete the Common Courses and 5 of the following:

  • Analytical Chemistry with lab
  • Intro. to Inorganic Chemistry
  • Intro. to Biochemistry
  • Physical Chemistry I
  • Physical Chemistry II
  • Materials Science
  • Advanced Lab
  • Special Topics
  • Instrumental Analysis
  • Biochemistry
  • Advanced Organic Chemistry

Bachelor of Science Requirements

Complete the Common Courses and:

  • Analytical Chemistry with lab
  • Intro. to Inorganic Chemistry
  • Intro. to Biochemistry
  • Physical Chemistry I
  • Physical Chemistry II
  • Advanced Lab
  • Senior research project

And 2 of the following:

  • Materials Science
  • Special Topics
  • Instrumental Analysis
  • Biochemistry
  • Advanced Organic Chemistry

For the Bachelor of Arts, students are encouraged to minor in another discipline.

For the Bachelor of Science, students are required to take:

Calculus I & II, General Physics I & II, and Calculus III or Statistics.
