Clinical Fieldwork

As part of the 60-credit curriculum, you will complete three consecutive semesters of clinical fieldwork: a practicum followed by two semesters of internship. Practicum (CMHC 600) and Internship (CMHC 695) are described below.

CHMC 600 Practicum

Students integrate theory and practice in the counseling profession through an off-campus practicum. In addition to the requirement of 100 hours of supervised clinical work in an approved counseling agency, students also attend class each week which consists of group supervision. During class, the students also review relevant professional, ethical and legal issues in counseling (for example assessment procedures, treatment planning, best empirically proven interventions, confidentiality, etc.). Registration is by the application. Prerequisites: CMHC 500, 510, 515, 520, 525, 535. Three semester hours.

CMHC 695 Internship

Designed to provide students an intensive experience where they can integrate their academic learning during the clinical experience. In addition to the requirement of 300 hours of supervised clinical work in an approved counseling agency, they also attend class each week. The weekly class consists of group supervision and a review of relevant professional, ethical and legal issues in counseling (for example assessment procedures, treatment planning, best empirically proven interventions, confidentiality, etc.). Prerequisite: CMHC 600 Three semester hours. May be repeated for credit.

A Field Placement Coordinator will be available to help manage student placements at clinical sites and will work with Tevera.
