Greenville Swamp Rabbits, South Carolina
Virginia Court of Appeals
As a senior Economics and Political Science double major at Emory & Henry, my college experience is taking place close to my hometown of Meadowview, Virginia. My internship with Feeding America allowed me to put my education to work for the good of the local community. This internship has given me valuable on-the-job experience in economic planning and organizational effectiveness. Working for a non-profit was also unique because of the type of work I was exposed to and the willingness of the dedicated staff at Feed America to include me in many of their functions. In the future, I hope to have a career where I can impact and serve communities worldwide!
Emily Price, ’18
Assistant for Volunteer Coordinator, Feeding America
Emory & Henry’s emphasis on experiential learning gave me the opportunity to earn credits through an internship. During my time at Volvo, I worked on a variety of cost reduction projects ending with a presentation to the directors of the organization. My internship allowed me to enhance my professional skills by giving me first-hand experience in the work place. Through this internship, I was able to put my knowledge to the test in the field of study I am passionate about.
Kassandra Richardson, ’19
Intern: Volvo Truck America
While growing up in Floyd, Virginia, playing and watching sports was a passion of mine. I became more interested in sport management as I entered college and was able to turn this interest into my senior capstone project, a successful internship with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, a minor league hockey team located in Greenville, SC. With my Economics and Business majors as background, I assisted on marketing projects as well as corporate sponsorship initiatives. Emory & Henry has given me the tools and freedom I needed to explore a field that I am interested in and a curriculum that allows me to get college credit for an exciting internship that has already led to a winter job offer.
Korey Shortt, ’18
Marketing Assistant and Corporate Sponsorship Intern
As a student at Emory & Henry, I majored in Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics (PPE). This unique interdisciplinary major addressed my interests in ethics, law, and public policy. I am currently entering my second year of law school at North Carolina Central University School of Law. This past summer, I had the distinct honor and privilege to intern for the Honorable Rossie Alston Jr. at the Virginia Court of Appeals, Manassas office. I prepared bench briefs for Judge Alston Jr. to review before hearing a case, helped write opinions for various cases, and completed one-judge edits. Clerking for Judge Alston Jr. was truly an amazing experience and I gained valuable knowledge and insight regarding my future legal career. My courses in Law & Economics and Contemporary Problems of Justice at Emory & Henry College provided me with a solid foundation to a variety of important legal topics and concepts. I am grateful that Emory & Henry offers the PPE major. It is one of those rare jewels that only a small liberal arts college can provide and it has been inspirational and foundational in the formation of my career goals.

My advice to prospective and current students is to put yourself out there and try new things! I feel like I was granted more opportunities and was able to develop deeper relationships with peers and professors than I would have anywhere else.
