Our students receive a combination of real-life experience and theory-based media studies across the mass communications curriculum.

The experience in the Department of Mass Communications is unlike any other across the country. Our students master valuable skills and concepts through coursework and hands-on experiences in a wide variety of specialties in order to be prepared for any career they choose. Our program includes an education in reporting and editing, audio and video media production, digital and graphic design, and marketing and public relations. Students also work with campus media outlets such as the campus radio and television stations, The Whitetopper student newspaper, The Sphinx yearbook, and online. 


  • Bachelor of Arts, Mass Communications

    To provide liberal arts students a thorough foundation in the theories and applications of mass communications and an understanding of the function of communication in society. To develop broad-based skills and understanding which will prepare students for a wide variety of careers or for advanced study in communication, business, government, or law.

  • Minor, Mass Communications

    A student may minor in mass communications by completing 101, 202, 210, 390, 451, and one additional course other than 470, 471, or 480.

  • Minor, Visual Communications

    A student may minor in visual communications by completing 101, 210, 204, 390, 404, and 451.
