Obesity Research Center

The longer a person is obese, the more significant obesity-related risk factors become. Given the chronic diseases and conditions associated with obesity, and the fact that obesity is difficult to treat, prevention is extremely important.

Prevention of obesity in children is so vital! The likelihood of obese children becoming obese adults is thought to increase from about 20% at four years of age to 80% by adolescence.

Vision

The Obesity Research Center will become a research and education leader in Southwest Virginia allowing for the rapid development and dissemination of information and programs for health-conscious consumers and health, fitness and medical businesses that serve them.

Mission

The mission of the Obesity Research Center is to identify effective strategies and methods to prevent weight gain.
