We’re excited to hear about your interest in a science major at Emory & Henry College and are delighted to invite you to apply to join the new Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) cohort program. Do you want to use your science skills to make a positive difference in the world? If so, this program is a great way to feed your curiosity and get you involved in hands-on, project-based scientific research with the help of faculty mentors and peers who share your enthusiasm…right from the very beginning of your undergraduate education.

Here are some great reasons you should consider becoming part of the cohort:
- You’ll have opportunities in and outside of the classroom to build relationships with faculty mentors.
- You’ll receive guaranteed spots in first-year science courses relevant to your intended major.
- You’ll receive structured support for project-based learning and independent research, through the STEM-themed first-year seminar (Transitions I) and later departmental research offerings.
- E&H science students go on to do great things after graduation. Example placements of recent graduates include public school science teacher, software engineer, analytical chemist, laboratory technician at Eastman Chemical Company or Duke University, research assistant at The American Chestnut Foundation, graduate school at Virginia Tech, medical school at the University of Tennessee, and veterinary school at Lincoln Memorial University.

Reserved placement in first-year math and science courses:
- You should take two STEM courses in their first semester, with placement depending on their preparation and major. Options include General Biology, General Chemistry, Introduction to Engineering Science* (*spring offering)
- Math course appropriate to your preparation level
Field trips to area graduate programs and science facilities:
- Possible field trip sites include: Virginia Museum of Natural History, Gatlinburg Aquarium, Knoxville Zoo, Virginia Tech, East Tennessee State University Gray/Saltville Mammoth Fossil Sites, Bristol Caverns, Bartlett-Crowe Field Station
