Emory & Henry is proud to announce the “SWVA Lift Initiative” which offers students who meet the admittance standards and are Pell-eligible the opportunity to attend with minimal out-of-pocket tuition cost and significantly lower than average loan debt. The program will allow an E&H liberal arts education to be more accessible for students in the region, which is consistent with the College’s historical commitment to serving Southwest Virginia.
SWVA Lift targets lower income students from Lee, Wise, Dickenson, Buchanan, Tazewell, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Washington, Grayson, Carroll, Wythe and Bland counties and cities of Norton, Galax, and Bristol, Va., who meet the acceptance requirements for Emory & Henry and are also Pell-eligible. Many of these prospective students reside within one hour of the College and could choose to live at home and commute during their time at college. Emory & Henry will accept the federal Pell grant and state Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG) available to eligible students. Federal loans will also be offered to offset costs for students not receiving full Pell, and the unsubsidized loan may also be used to cover the cost of books. These awards combined will cover both the student’s tuition and fees. If these students choose to live off-campus, they will have virtually no out-of-pocket expense and can graduate with little to no loan debt. For students choosing to live on-campus, room and board charges are not covered under this program.
