10 a.m., Lawn of Memorial Chapel
(Rain Location, King Center Gym)
Commencement will be held on the lawn of Memorial Chapel. Should there be inclement weather, our rain location will be the King Center Gymnasium. A decision about rain will likely be made very early Saturday morning and notices will be sent via cell phone and LiveSafe. There will also be information on this page.
Traffic and Parking
Reserved parking for guests with disabilities will be available at the Memorial Chapel parking lot. All other parking lots will be open for guests. Because Commencement is held outdoors, automobile traffic through the campus will be restricted beginning at 9:45 a.m. After this time, campus traffic will be directed to the east entrance (near the King Center).
Seating for Guests
Nearly 2000 seats will be placed on the lawn, but guests are welcome to bring folding chairs or blankets for seating on the perimeter.
Graduates will line up in front of Van Dyke and will march up the sidewalk past the duck pond to enter the lawn area at the chapel.
In Case of Rain
We will make every effort to hold commencement exercises outside. But in case of inclement weather, commencement ceremonies will be moved into the King Center Gymnasium. Graduates will gather in the weight room and will enter the gym through the back doors of the gym.
Because of limited seating in the gym, tickets will be necessary to insure that every graduate has at room for at least a few guests. Each graduate will get 4 tickets, and tickets will be mailed to home addresses in advance “just in case.”
Rain or shine, the ceremonies will be live-broadcast online and also on campus. Anyone who wishes to be out of the elements for any reason, may watch the ceremony in the comfort of seats in the McGlothlin Center for the Arts or Wiley Hall Auditorium. Tickets are not required for seating in these areas.
Guests are welcome to take photos and videotape the ceremony. A professional photographer will be at the event to photograph each and every graduate as diplomas are received. A print of this photo will be mailed to grads after commencement.
Only service animals are allowed at commencement.
Be Our Guest for Lunch
To celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2018, E&H is honored to have you and your graduation party as our guests for lunch in the Van Dyke Dining Hall. Lunch will be available immediately following the morning ceremony (we usually conclude by 12:30 pm) and the dining hall will be open until 2 pm. In order to have enough food, we need to know if you are planning to attend, and roughly how many will be in your party. Respond by May 1 to email@example.com
