Grow Your Own helps school divisions develop well-qualified teachers locally. High school students in the Southwest Region of Virginia will now have the opportunity to start hands-on learning from high school to community college to a higher ed degree attainment at Emory & Henry College for a fraction of the cost to become a classroom teacher and stay in the region of their upbringing. The new “Grow Your Own” is the first of its kind in Virginia with plans to roll out through Virginia and America, as a model to place more teachers in the classrooms.

Emory & Henry Breaks Ground on new MultiSport Complex for the Region Thanks to Generous Lead Gift of $4 Million from Food City
Hundreds of Emory & Henry College students and thousands of middle and high school students will soon be playing sports including lacrosse, track and field and soccer at the new MultiSport Complex at exit 26 just off the I-81 Emory & Henry Education Corridor. Emory & Henry spans facilities from Marion to Bristol in Virginia serving more than 1,400 students. It is estimated that the new complex will be ready for use by fall 2024.

The 175th commencement ceremony for the Emory & Henry College graduating class of 2023 was held at Fred Selfe Stadium on the Emory campus, Saturday, May 6 at 10 a.m. More than 230 graduates walked across the stage and received their diplomas with supportive family, friends and faculty cheering them on.

Emory & Henry College got a boost to support local and regional history preservation in Southwest Virginia thanks to recent funding from the Roller Bottimore Foundation. “The Watershed Project: Civic Memory for a Citizenship of Place” has a two-fold purpose - to preserve, index, and archive a wide range of historical material related to the history and operation of Emory & Henry College, the oldest institution of higher learning in Southwest Virginia, and to utilize these materials to create an engaging, dynamic, born-digital, open-source history of the region of Southwest Virginia and, more specifically, the college’s role as an institutional citizen of that place.

Hundreds of students at Emory & Henry College have a new Student Success Center to call home that was dedicated Friday, September 16, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony with members of the Powell family, President John W. Wells and former President Charlie Sydnor presiding. With the Powell family’s generous and continued gifts, a new center was constructed in Wiley Hall, where a former auditorium was housed. Emory & Henry College has shifted category rankings in U.S. News & World Report, Best Colleges for 2022-23 from National Liberal Arts College to Regional University (South), earning a Top 20 Best Colleges ranking amongst 135 peer institutions.
