Emory & Henry Inducts Four Into Sports Hall of Fame for 2019

The Emory & Henry College Department of Athletics and Alumni Office have announced the 2019 Sports Hall of Fame class.

The annual induction ceremony was held on the morning Saturday, Oct. 5, in the Kennedy-Reedy Theatre of the Woodrow W. McGlothlin Center for the Arts. A group of five individuals was presented with the College’s highest athletic honor.

The 2019 Emory & Henry College Sports Hall of Fame class consists of Casey Burcham, Jackie Greene-Dalton, Aaron Fuller, Gary Haga, and Tracy Ross.

Burcham was a standout player for the baseball team and is near the top of Wasps record book in several offensive categories, including home runs, runs-batted-in, and walks. Burcham was selected to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, Honorable Mention All-Conference team in both 2005 and 2006.

Dalton dominated the basketball court for the College from 1992-96. A prolific scorer, she is one of only a handful of players to belong to the 1000-point club, collecting 1,232 points in her four years. For her career, Dalton made 516 field goals, a total that sits number two in program history. She also collected 810 rebounds over her career – good enough for 3rd all-time for the Wasps. She earned multiple all-conference honors, including Honorable Mention in 1993-94, second-team honors in 1994-95, and 1st team honors in 1995-96.

Fuller played on a Wasp football team that dominated the conference during his four years at Emory & Henry. Those teams from 1994-98 went a combined 33-8 en-route to capturing four ODAC championships. During this stretch, the Wasps never lost a home game. Fuller led the conference in scoring during the 1994 season. During his athletic career, Fuller was the all-time leader for the Wasps with 2,594 receiving yards – and ranked second all-time in the conference. He was a two-time 1st team All-ODAC selection, a two-time 1st team All-State selection, and a 2nd team All-South Region selection in 1997.

Haga is one of the most decorated athletes in the history of Track & Field. He was one of the 23 members of the revived E&H Track & Field team, started under Coach David Robbins in 1976, following a period of 35 years in which there was no team. In that first season, the team went undefeated and set 2 State Records and 14 School records. During the historic season of 1980, Haga was selected to the All-Conference First Team in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Honors for that season included an individual championship in the 1-Mile Run that added a conference record in the indoor mile with a blazing time of 4 mins 25 sec. Overall, Gary set nine different school records during his time at the College.

Ross spent her entire career in the mid-’90s as the top player for the Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis team playing #1 in both singles and doubles all four years at the College from 1994-1997. Her top play on the courts earned her national recognition her freshmen season – reaching #44 in the nation as an individual. For the season, she went 28-8 overall – with 14 wins and four losses each in singles and doubles. Her stellar play helped the Wasps earn a third-place finish in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in 1994, 95, and 96.
