E&H Visual and Performing Arts Scholarships for Music, Theatre or Art

Emory & Henry College hosts visual and performing arts scholarship interviews and auditions for high school students and transfer students interested in theatre, music and art at the Main Campus off I-81, exit 26 in Emory, Va. in the upcoming months.

The division of visual and performing arts at Emory & Henry College is a leader in arts education. From new art, music and theatre spaces on campus such as the McGlothlin Center for the Arts with two theatres, production and gallery spaces, to the new Marching Band Building, the College invests in the future.

Several interest and performance-based scholarships are available to incoming freshmen and transfer students. The scholarship awards are based on completion of the E&H application, in addition to portfolio submissions, auditions or interviews. While every student who is accepted to the college receives an academic scholarship, audition and interview days allow students to receive additional awards for participation in programs in theatre, music and visual arts.

Students interested in any of the E&H Theatre Department’s Bachelor of Fine Arts programs should audition for acceptance. Prospective students are considered for theatre scholarships during their audition and interview for acceptance into the program. Theatre auditions are scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 23 where students and guests are invited to see a performance of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at 2 p.m.; Friday, April 3 with a 7:30 p.m. performance of Little Women and on Wednesday, May 6.

“Emory & Henry has provided me an invaluable relationship with Barter Theatre that has given me further training and performance opportunities,” Hahna Kaleigh Bowyer of Blacksburg, Va., E&H ’20, musical theatre major says. “My experience through my education has shaped me as a student and as a performer. This department has offered me a true understanding of how to become a professional in my craft. As this is a smaller college, individualized attention has allowed me to see greater progress and growth. This individualized attention also has granted me the opportunity to form better connections with professionals in my field.”

Students interested in pursuing studies in vocal or performance music or music education may audition for a vocal, instrumental or marching band performance scholarship. A music department scholarship day is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 28, 2020. Students should complete the E&H application, the music scholarship application and RSVP for the event. 

The E&H Art Department also offers scholarships to students who have completed an application and are based on a portfolio review and interview. The submitted portfolio should contain the student’s best work. Students can apply online and select the date for their portfolio review.
