2020 E&H Distinguished Alumni Awards Announced

In lieu of Founders Day being canceled, we are working to find a way to celebrate and honor our award winners in other ways at later date.

In February 2020, the E&H Distinguished Alumni Award Selection Committee met to choose the 2020 recipients of our annually presented alumni awards. 

This year’s honorees are as follows: 

The Rev. Carl and Ruth Looney Humanitarian Award: Kris Sheets ’02

Kris was chosen for the award because of the selfless community service she practices for the community of Saltville.  She is Branch Supervisor of the Saltville Public Library, and serves with a host of community leadership organizations.

Distinguished Achievement Award: Harold Craw ’99

Harold was chosen for his distinctive work as an executive in minor league baseball.He is the general manager for the Jacksonsville Jumbo Shrimp and in 2017 he became the first African American to be named Executive of the Year for any league in Minor League Baseball. 

Fred Selfe Service to Emory & Henry Award: Bobbie Frentz Larkins ’03

Bobbie was chosen for this award in recognition of her commitment to making real-world work connections for E&H students.

A.L. Mitchell Young Alumnus Award:  Josh Stamper ’07

Josh is assistant principal at Virginia Middle School and has recently published a book that is helping explain the Trauma Informed Care movement in our public schools. The book is entitled, Ugly Me.

James A. Davis Faculty Award:  Dr. Lou Fincher

Dr. Fincher was chosen for her success in establishing the E&H School of Health Sciences as an important partner in health care in our region.

College Citations

Anita T. Coulthard, in recognition of her accomplishments as a talented performer, director, administrator, and advocate for the visual and performing arts at the College and throughout the region.

Bishop Richard C. Looney, Class of 1954, for his extraordinary leadership in The United Methodist Church and for his lifelong commitment to Christian discipleship and ministry.
