Randy Colquitt is Onboard!
For those of you who haven’t started a new job lately, there’s a catch-phrase in human resources that is making it easier for those first days on the job. “Onboarding” is the term used for bringing a new employee into the company, and it covers all those little details that can make the experience easier.
Randy Colquitt is currently the onboarding coordinator for Boyd Gaming Corp. at their corporate office in Las Vegas, Nevada. “I provide operational and administrative support to the onboarding specialists in regards to onboarding new hires for the company. That means I’m in charge of ‘everything onboarding’ - from creating new hire folders for the scheduled onboarding day (compiling the offer letter, PAF, w-4, badging/uniform paperwork, and new hire orientation paperwork). I am also in charge of auditing the files of recent new hires and making sure they are scanned into our system.”
Randy started with Boyd as an intern in the summer of 2018 with the company’s HR department. After he expressed interest in coming back they set him up with their employment shared services center where he assists with recruitment/onboarding for all 12 of Boyd’s Las Vegas properties as well as 2 out-of-state properties. “When I first started, I was on the employment/recruiting side – learning the ropes of full life-cycle recruiting for a gaming/entertainment company. I switched over to onboarding beginning January 2020.” He has extended his internship there in order to continue to learn the field of human resources.
Randy was a religion major at Emory & Henry. “However, I am also fascinated with the world of HR, specifically the role of Human Resources in the hospitality sector. My religion/theology degree gives me an advantage because it gives me the skills to think critically about other people and how other people interact in the business setting. Then throw my E&H master’s degree in Community and Organizational Leadership in the mix and that degree allows me to understand the leadership required in organizations as well as how to lead an organization forward.”
Randy still plans to pursue his Master of Divinity degree, but he’s also keeping an eye out for other great human resources opportunities.
