Emory & Henry senior Layne Hubble is ready to pursue her dreams
Layne Hubble will graduate in May 2020 with a double-major in History and Political Science and a minor in Museum Studies. This past year, she has been conducting research centered on the concept of who owns antiquity - analyzing real world examples involving countries like England, Greece, and Egypt. One day, she would like to be on the frontlines of this debate, aiding industries and museums in their navigation of the rapidly changing environment of material history ownership.
“Emory & Henry has prepared me for the real world by giving me an immense and irreplaceable support network,” says Hubble. “The past four years have given me a massive family— of student peers, faculty, and staff.”
During the summer of 2019, Hubble travelled to Greece as part of a study abroad program. She was able to see artifacts, locations, and artwork that she had studied in her History of Ancient Greece class. Additionally, she was able to study for a month at the University of Westminster in London, England.
“Visiting this country and seeing the different palaces, museums, and abbeys was something I had dreamed about for the majority of my academic career,” says Hubble. “My study abroad trip was a magnificent opportunity for thesis research, but also an enriching opportunity for the different cultural experiences and friends I made along the way.”
While at Emory & Henry, Hubble was involved with the Honors Program, the Hermesian Debate Society, Phi Eta Sigma, the SI program, the History Department, the Blue & Gold Society, Climate Collaborative, the Art Club, and a Sweetheart for Theta Chi Epsilon Social Fraternity.
After graduation, Hubble will continue to pursue her ideal career working in the auction house industry.
