Luke Grooms (E&H ’01) Has Spent the COVID-19 Shut-Down in South Korea

Luke Grooms has been riding out the pandemic in South Korea.

He is part of the cast of The Phantom of the Opera World Tour. He and cast-mates began performances in Seoul in March but had to take a brief hiatus from performances due to COVID-19.

Good news, however: performances resume on April 23.

Luke says they’ve just competed rehearsals this week and not only do cast members feel ready…they also feel safe. “All our stage props have been sanitized, the bus we use for transporting the cast has required social distancing, the auditorium and all our dressing rooms have been sanitized.”

Luke Grooms, E&H 2001, in Seoul, South Korea, sporting his mask during the 2020 pandemic.Luke says they had two cast members test positive, so the Phantom company, in strict compliance with the Korean government, has been diligent about testing the full cast, keeping them quarantined, and checking temperatures routinely.

So on April 23 they will be ready to perform – and they will hope they will have a full theatre.  “The verdict is out. We will see when the audience shows up. Everyone in the audience will be required to wear a mask. The entire country is pretty much wearing masks.”
