Who’s Bored?
What is everyone up to these days?
Mark Lambert is taking orders from his canine assistant.
Scrolling through Facebook posts these days is a fascinating look at so many clever activities for keeping engaged, entertained, and interestingly productive. We asked alumni to let us know what they were doing.
Mark Lambert (’95) sent us a photo that sums up his experience of working at home. Apparently his assistant is very loyal. “I have a work mate who helps me accomplish my tasks every day.”
Ed Boye is learning to paint.Ed Boye (’67) is using his time creatively, and says he is fulfilling a lifelong dream: learning to paint. This particular painting of a real castle he visited while traveling comes with a great story: “We were walking up the road to this castle (Neuschwanstein castle in Barbaria) and walking down the hill came someone with an E&H sweashirt on. We are everywhere!
Rolfe Hillman isn’t an E&H graduate yet – he’s a non-traditional current student with lots of family ties to Emory & Henry (recognize the name?). He says he is using this unexpected downtime to finish his spring course-work at Emory & Henry: “I’m taking my Medieval European History course by Professor Well’s video lectures and quizzes.” And he also works in time for an occasional walk in the E&H cemetery to commune with family.
Spotted Wintergreen, observed by Nancyjean for the Blue Ridge Discovery Center's 2020 Backyard edition of the annual Mt. Rogers Naturalist Rally..And it’s a great time for learning. In fact, Nancyjean Bradford (’75) and Dr. T. Edward Damer (E&H philosophy faculty retired), have used this unusual juncture in time to learn more about the nature that surrounds them on their beautiful Emory property. The duo were taking the basic training class for Virginia Master Naturalist when everything suddenly changed. But they finished the course by participating in online presentations, and they’ve followed up by participating in the “backyard edition” of the annual Mt. Rogers Naturalist Rally: participants are asked to explore nature in their backyards and record observations on iNaturalist. Nancyjean recently declared: “I’ve now got 107 Observations on iNaturalist!”
