Emory & Henry senior James Jiggetts to work in professional theatre
Professional theatre awaits James Jiggetts after he graduates this month from Emory & Henry, a big step forward in a journey made rich by the Emory & Henry College Theatre Department, including quality faculty members and fellow student actors who helped him to grow as an actor and an individual.
As a student, James landed a wig internship with Barter Theatre, a renowned professional theatre in Abingdon. His professors and his Barter mentors provided him with caring guidance that prepared him “immensely,” he said. “Having opportunities like that has made me see and understand the professional world in an honest way and make me feel even more prepared to conquer the real world full time.”
As a student actor, James took on many roles in many productions. Each provided unique experiences that shaped him as an artist and as a person. “They each hold a special memory, each one building off of the other. They’ve helped me overcome and grow throughout things in my personal life, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I had and all the wonderful people I have met along the way.”
Among his inspirations at Emory & Henry have been dance professor Annalee Tull. “She has been my rock throughout the four years, and she has changed who I am soulfully and artistically.” He also credits the other professors in the Theatre Department. “I can’t thank them enough for their support and the belief they had in me.”
Throughout his years at Emory & Henry, James has been inspired by the passion and creativity of numerous friends and colleagues. “If you were to tell me four years ago that this is where I would be today, I wouldn’t have believed you, but that’s the magic of letting go and trusting the journey.”
