Statement of Recognition for the BIPOC Workforce on this Labor Day 2020
Emory & Henry College’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion joins in the celebration and recognition of all of our country’s workers, however, we draw specific attention to our Nation’s Black Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) workforce. Often BIPOC’s sustained contributions to the American workforce movement are overlooked. We want to honor and pay homage to their many contributions in the building of our society and its great economy. As enslaved and marginalized populations, BIPOC were forced into labor that produced the very fabric of the economy we enjoy today. Indeed, we stand on the shoulders of our BIPOC ancestors, who have historically, and continue to be, underemployed and who often still work two to three jobs daily to just keep their head above water or make ends meet. Today, as we take a moment to consider the American worker, we want to honor BIPOC workers, for we know your contributions to our workforce helped to “build the greatest economy in the world”.
Thank you for all you do!
