Emory & Henry junior Connor Buchanan named College’s first Rocovich Scholar
Buchanan is the first Emory & Henry student to receive this honor. This program accepts a small set of rising juniors because of their interest in, and commitment to, practicing in rural regions.
“Emory & Henry is truly an exceptional training ground for students who want to go into healthcare,” says J.P. Barfield, Exercise Science and Pre-Health Director. “Our articulation agreements with schools such as VCOM are a tremendous opportunity for our underclassmen.”
The Pre-Health Program at Emory & Henry College is devoted to providing support and guidance for undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare-related fields. With a liberal arts foundation, award-winning professors, and research and experiential opportunities, the Program prepares students for entrance into graduate healthcare programs.
“Emory & Henry is able to recommend multiple students for early admission to medical school following their sophomore year or recommend seniors for an interview following their senior year,” says Barfield. “We recommended Connor because his performance has been excellent, and he is committed to serving healthcare needs in our region.”
Buchanan adds, “After I graduate from medical school I hope to return to this area to practice. I am still unsure of which area of medicine I want to pursue, but I know whatever I choose my Emory & Henry education and faculty who go above and beyond to ensure students succeed will have prepared me.”
