Dr. Bremner Helping to Create ACA Learning Center
An Emory & Henry College professor of theatre has been named to a four-person board tasked with creating a Center for Teaching and Learning for the Appalachian College Association.
Dr. Kelly Bremner and other members of the board will work on establishing teaching tools and resources to serve the 35 institutions of the ACA.
Bremner, who was honored in 2017 with the Outstanding Faculty Award given by the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia, has devoted her career to excellence in education. “I am always passionate about quality teaching and have come to really love and respect my faculty colleagues at all the ACA schools.”
She said she is looking forward to helping to create the new Center “from the ground up” that will help college educators better reach their students.
“In the theatre we have to be deeply collaborative to be successful,” Bremner said. “Every member of the team brings different perspectives to the table to help achieve a full production. I am hoping with my theatre background I can help creatively innovate ways to teach and engage students in all disciplines across the region.”
The chair of the E&H Theatre Department, Bremner holds advanced degrees in English, music and theatre, including a Ph.D. in theatre from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her fascination with multidisciplinary spaces between music, theatre and dance led to a dissertation focused on political utopias tied to the phenomenon of Total Theatre.
Bremner has been recognized with a YWCA Tribute to Woman Award for excellence in education in honor of her teaching and mentorship of students who have excelled in major theatre competitions. She has received numerous grants and her work has been seen professionally in the Midwest and the Northeast.
