Buchanan Earns Ledford Scholarship

Connor Buchanan (’22) has been recently recognized as a 2021 Ledford Scholar from the Appalachian Colleges Committee.  This award will help fund his research on the impact of Covid-19 on Appalachian adolescents.

The Ledford Scholarship offers financial assistance for summer undergraduate research projects to students enrolled at Appalachian College Association member institutions. Undergraduate students from all disciplines, applying various methodologies, are eligible.  Connor is one of 42 students from the ACA member institutions to be recognized.  

Connor will be conducting mixed methods research addressing examining the effects of COVID-19 on physical and affective variables among children and adolescents but also hopes to identify challenges that families are facing to maintain the physical and mental health of their children and what strategies they are using to overcome those barriers. COVID-19 has had unique impacts on many Appalachian communities and it is predicted that its effects will be felt for many years. 

Connor will present his research in the fall. A video presentation will be available on the ACA website along with presentations from all 2021 Ledford Scholars.
