COA Invites E&H for One More Road Trip!

The Emory & Henry Alumni Office is pleased to be participating one last time in the “College for Online Adults” sponsored by the SWVA Higher Education Center.

Dubbed the “E&H Road Trip,” the E&H class for COA has been fashioned in the style of Emory & Henry’s annual summer alumni college, More Than A Vacation. Topics vary each week and tend to be about things previously unknown.

Fall participants were taken to a variety of locations in the local region (like the new Tumbling Creek cidery and The Birthplace of Country Music Museum). Winter participants enjoyed touring a series of “Cool Bees” (like Birding with Dr. Steven Hopp, learning about Bats from VDOT, and talking about the history of Barbershop music with Warren and Andy Fuson).

This spring, we are using Atlas Obscura as our muse, and we’re going to visit unusual locations around the Eastern U.S. that could provide a fascinating, fun, and low-crowd road trip for those looking to hit the road safely this year.

All events are on Thursdays at 1 pm beginning on April 8. Check the list, mark your calendars, and join us on your lunch hour for a behind-the-scenes look at some interesting spots on the map. April 8, 1 pm: First stop – the Gray Fossil Site in Tennessee! Filled with amazing surprises that tell an incredible history. We’ll get a behind-the-scenes tour! https://www.ehc.edu/calendar/event_id/44391/view/event

April 22, 1 pm: If Poe wasn’t creepy enough, let’s talk about ghosts! E&H Alumna Tonia Kestner, Executive Director of the Bristol Public Library, and Jeanne Powers Head of the Reference Department, will team up to lead us on a tour of haunted places in the Virginia Highlands:: https://www.ehc.edu/calendar/event_id/44426/view/event

April 29, 1 pm: Let’s get deep – with a trip to the cave systems in Kentucky! Our guide will be Dave Foster, E&H alumnus and executive director of the American Cave Conservation Association: https://www.ehc.edu/calendar/event_id/44427/view/event
