Claire Peterson to continue education at Emory & Henry
Our Emory & Henry seniors are preparing to graduate and change the world.
Claire Peterson, from Glade Spring, Va., will graduate in May 2021 with a degree in Sociology. Peterson was a proud member of the Honors Program while on campus.
“As both a legacy and a transfer student from Virginia Highlands Community College, Emory & Henry welcomed me into the community, and I truly feel like I’ve had a life-changing experience here,” says Peterson. “Through my studies, I have been able to hone in on my passions and my goal to work in environmental policy through the lens of sociology. My coursework in these departments, as well the other disciplines I have focused on, has given me not just knowledge but important skills and insights, and I am excited to see how I can transfer them to my work in the real world.”
Peterson is grateful for the many people who have helped support and guide her during her time as an undergraduate student.
“Before I transferred to Emory, Dr. Koch helped me to find my home in the Sociology department,” says Peterson. “By the time I finished my first conversation with her, I knew I was exactly where I needed to be. I have truly been able to grow, not only as a student but as a person, from the support Dr. Koch has shown me. Some of my favorite memories in college are the hours of the deep conversations I have had with Dr. Koch in her office. Dr. Krause has shown me unfailing kindness and has always offered a lending hand. I have learned so much about my own abilities under her direction, and I am thankful for her support.”
After graduation, Peterson will pursue a master’s of Community and Organizational Leadership at Emory & Henry. Peterson hopes to work in environmental policy.
