Compositions by four female composers are performed in a virtual concert presented by pianist Lisa Withers, chair of the Emory & Henry College Music Department and incoming Dean of the E&H School of Arts and Sciences available July 2-6.

Withers’ recital was recorded in the Kennedy∼Reedy Theatre of the McGlothlin Center for the Arts and will be available from July 2-6, 2021 on YouTube with teasers available starting on June 25.

The recital features compositions by Jocelyn Hagen, Libby Larsen, Margaret Bonds and Madeleine Dring. “I wanted to pick excellent composers whose music I really admired, but who might not be familiar to general audiences,” Withers said.

The music included in this performance was composed in either the 20th and 21st centuries and includes a variety of styles and compositional techniques. During her performance, Withers pauses between pieces to offer context and comments about the music she is playing.

This virtual performance was produced as an alternative to a live-audience performance. The online presentation of the recital also provides Withers the chance to gauge new opportunities for expanded online audiences of E&H music events.
