Rayce Lamb Launches Financial Business – with a Focus on Faith

Posted by Monica Hoel
We all know the rules. To avoid conflict, avoid talking about religion and politics. And to avoid seeming “tacky,” don’t talk about money. So how is Rayce Lamb going to traverse a world in which he will have to discuss religion and money?

Rayce has launched a new business called Faithonomics. It’s a venture to help ministers better informed about financial matters. And also counsels them on how to work through issues of church finance challenges and dwindling church coffers.

The idea for the business grew out of several opportunities to make astute observations – some moments being better than others.

For starters, he is a staff member at Wake Forest Divinity School, and his job (until recently) has been helping people determine if they really are called to be in the ministry (he was just named Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management for Wake Divinity). Discerning that Chrisitan ministry is the right career path doesn’t necessarily mean that they are well-equipped for financial matters. In fact, Rayce recently wrote an article entitled “God Will Provide?” – with emphasis on the question mark.

Others come to this work late in life and are of an age where they will never pay off school loans in their lifetime, and this creates a lot of tension around money matters.

Through Faithonomics counseling sessions and programs, Rayce hopes to help people take care of themselves while they take care of their congregations.

And this is also a very personal endeavor for Rayce. He is no stranger to the challenges of financial solvency, and he remembers the realities of facing some of his own challenges for a time. “I was blessed to know good Emory & Henry friends who let me sleep on their couches while I figured things out.” Now he’s creatively finding ways to help others avoid similar situations.

So not only is Rayce going to be talking about money and religion as part of his personal mission, he actually really loves talking about money. “I remember being so excited to find out about a Roth IRA! I starting telling all my friends, ‘You need to know about this!’”

You can enjoy a lively conversation with Rayce in the WEHC-FM archives: https://archive.org/details/OntheDuckPondWall/Rayce+Lamb.mp2
