New Name, Same Mission: The Stinger’s Supply Shelf is Here to Help

Posted by Leah Wilson
What some may know as the Kitchen Closet, will now be known as the Stinger’s Supply Shelf. A student-led remodel, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place on November 17. As part of her CVIN Major Senior Project, Emory & Henry student, Sarah Dutton, has taken on the amazing work of bettering her fellow E&H students’ wellbeing.

Remarks from Dr. Shelley Koch, Leah Wilson with the Appalachian Center for Civic Life, Dave Brinegar with dining services and Bonner scholar student Sarah Dutton expressed their thanks.

You might be wondering what Stinger’s Supply Self is… it is a place for all students to find food, toiletries, and school supplies. Free of charge, this resource is for everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status. Dutton says, “The Stinger’s Supply Shelf is so beneficial to campus because it is a resource that students can use if they need something to help them feel at home, comfortable and succeed on campus.”

The move to make The Stinger’s Supply Self more than just a “Kitchen Closet” for food, rose with the increase of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Not only people around the world needed to care for their health more than ever, but so did our Emory & Henry family. The amazing board behind this remodeling project has brought a safe place for all students to find the necessary items to succeed.

If you would like to get involved, you can bring toiletry or school supplies donations to Leah Wilson in the Appalachian Center for Civic Life. Monetary donations are also accepted and can be made through visiting the Giving Website, selecting “Other” in the dropdown box, then including the name “Stinger’s Supply Shelf.” Through the support of the community, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Sodexo and many other contributors, the Stinger’s Supply Shelf continues to grow in demand and will continue to serve our students.

You can find the Singer’s Supply Shelf in the Van Dyke Center on the side closest to the football field.
