Kirk Candler Got “Canned” by Trapezium (And he’s very honored!)

Kirk Candler has the face that launched a thousand beers.

He was recently honored by his company, Trapezium and Beale’s Brewing, by having his likeness on one of their popular beers. The double hazy IPA is called Juice Box Hero and features a sketch of Kirk looking very much like a super hero.

Kirk says the company has a tradition of honoring different members of the company by featuring them on small-run beers, and this image of Kirk was created by the owner’s tattoo artist. “It was a complete surprise to me, but it has provided a fun way to reconnect with old friends from Emory – some of whom I hadn’t talked to for years.” He says comments ranged, as they would among good friends, from congratulatory remarks to friendly insults, but he loved every encounter and enjoyed catching up.

Kirk serves as a regional sales representative for Trapezium and Beale’s beers. He spent years in the banking industry but was ready for a new opportunity. So when Trapezium’s owner, an old friend, called to ask him to be the front man for his new company, he jumped. “I told him I’d be there in 20 minutes.”

He says it’s unusual to be promoting beers from two brewers, but the two share a single owner. So Kirk says he packs a cooler in the morning like his peers pack a briefcase, and he heads out to do work he loves and promote products from a company he believes in. In addition to making good beer, the company also has a commitment to creating business space in under-served areas. Instead of opening a tasting room in Richmond, for instance, they opened in Petersburg. And now they’ve got locations in Bedford and Amherst and they’re getting ready to expand into York County.

The smile on Kirk’s face seems proof that he loves his work – and that same smile made for great Trapezium can art.
